In 2024, SeeKenya turned 13. That’s 13 years of serving the poorest and most marginalised communities in Kenya and beyond with effective, low-cost and for some, life-changing, eye care services. 13 years of building strong relationships with our local partners, Edfri International, 13 years of routine eye tests, referrals and countless glasses made up in the glazing lab.
Over the years, we have seen God show up time and time again. We believe that what we are doing at SeeKenya has a Biblical mandate: “Then Jesus laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.” - Mark 8 v 25. As followers of Jesus, what a great and mighty call we have to emulate His lead. During one of the clinics in 2024, we had the joy of assisting Charity and Angel, aged 105 and 2, with their first pairs of glasses. It was a privilege to enable them to see clearly for the first time, and both of them were so appreciative of our efforts, giggling with joy continuously. Eye care is something we all need, whether we are 2 or 105. It's not a luxury for the few, it’s a human right for all.
SeeKenya was born of this desire to open eyes to a better life, both figuratively and practically speaking. By restoring sight, or enabling it for the very first time, we are truly opening eyes to a better life. Eyesight may not cure every problem or situation; the realities of poverty in Kenya are more complex than that. But it’s a starting place, an opportunity for us to partner with God in the most remarkable and honouring way.
This 2025, we have a great vision to continue the work He has started, and to grow and expand the impact we are already making. We are so grateful for those who support us behind the scenes at King's and beyond, faithfully praying and giving what they can. But we know we can, and must do more.
Every action you take for SeeKenya will support our transformative work, particularly our long-term goal of building a permanent clinic based in Meru. The construction work has already begun, and it’s incredible to see this dream slowly, brick by brick, become a reality. A permanent clinic will see over ten times the number of individuals our pop-up clinics can serve, with over 20,000 people receiving essential eye care services every year. Imagine the impact that SeeKenya will have in families and communities for generations to come.
Instead of a new year’s resolution, will you partner with us at SeeKenya this year? Whether you take on a sponsored ultramarathon or couch to 5km, invite us to lead an assembly at your local school, or make us your official charity partner for your business or workplace - the list is endless. You can find more ideas and inspiration here.
P.S. We are now hiring for the role of an Administrator. This is a job perfectly suited to an individual who knows how to get things done, is passionate about seeing lives transformed and wants to play their part in this mission. Do you think you, or someone you know might fit the bill? Check out our job description here for more, or email paul@seekenya.org to make an application.
